Welcome to the children’s ministry page at First Baptist Church Sparta!
Our desire is to provide a loving, safe environment in which all children would be introduced to Jesus Christ and His gift of salvation for them. We want every child to develop a lifelong relationship of love, trust, and obedience to God, resulting in a life that is pleasing to Him.
According to Ephesians 4:12, we are also commanded to “equip the saints to do the work of the ministry.” The Bible makes clear that parents are to be the primary faith influencers in children’s lives. The church is called to partner with the parents and families to equip them and take responsibility for those children that don’t have this influence at home. Because of this, we want to give parents the tools that they need to cultivate Christ in the lives of their children. We desire to walk side by side with parents in this process to produce dedicated followers of Jesus Christ. In short, our desire is to teach children and equip parents.

For Children’s Church the children (ages 4—3rd grade) sit with their families during the first portion of the service and then they meet up with their leaders at the front of the Worship Center after the offering time and before the sermon. The children will come in with their nametags on from those that registered before Sunday School. For Visitors, please check your child in at the Welcome center desk before the service, or during the greeting time.
We will meet your family and check your child into our system by filling out some paperwork. Once your family is checked in, one of our volunteers will be happy to give you some instruction concerning children’s church.
We will ask for the following personal information: family member’s names, child’s name and birth date, family address, phone number, and any special instructions (allergies, special needs) for your child. This is for your child’s safety and for your peace of mind. We don’t take lightly the privilege and responsibility of you trusting us with your child.
You and your child will be given matching identification tags exclusive to your family and your visit. Your child will need to wear the name tag portion of your matching identification tags which bears a code which is matched to your portion during checkout at the end of the service. During checkout, you will return to the Fellowship Hall and show your tag for your child to be released back to you.
We use The Gospel Project Curriculum for this ministry and use this time for fun activities and engage with them over the Word of God. The Gospel Project® for Kids immerses kids and preschoolers in the gospel through every story, theological concept, and call to mission from Genesis to Revelation. Ultimately, the gospel message changes everything; heart transformation can only take place when a child experiences the gospel. Through The Gospel Project® for Kids, kids and preschoolers will understand the Bible is not just a collection of stories, but one unified story—God’s story of redemption
Awana offers a fun, proven approach for early evangelism and discipleship. Scripture-based programs and exciting games attract families, promote Bible literacy and help kids develop lifelong faith in Christ. Kids represent the greatest opportunity to make a long-term impact on our world for Christ. Awana establishes welcoming, supportive environments where kids, from every background and cultural setting, learn how a personal relationship with Christ affects their everyday lives.
Our graded choir program is for children in grades 1-5. They meet on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. In addition to singing, a variety of teaching tools, including games, instruments and choreography are used during choir time. Our children’s choirs often participate in our church musicals.
Mission Friends is for children ages 3-4 yrs old. We meet on Wednesday evenings from 6-7pm during the school year. Each evening we walk through the New Testament learning about Jesus. We do this with games and activities, a Bible story through story board, prayer, craft and music. We are on a mission to learn about Jesus.
Our classes are designed to equip children to live God’s purpose for their lives. Through Bible stories and lessons the children will discover that God has created us for a purpose. Application is then made from the Scriptures to everyday living. The teachers strive to make the learning fun, creative and exciting! Classes for children in grades 1-5 meet Sunday mornings in the children’s wing at 10:45 a.m.
Current Classes are: Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade, 3rd & 4th grade, 5th grade
