"Better"
In a world obsessed with self-improvement and earthly “better,” Jesus opens His mouth and speaks of a radically better Kingdom—one that flips worldly wisdom upside down. As one of the expository sermons in King & Kingdom Series on the Book of Matthew, this sermon covers Matthew 5:1–6, Pastor Brad unpacks the first four Beatitudes, revealing how they point us not to human achievement but to divine grace.
We’re invited to see Jesus as the better Moses, ascending a mountain not to receive law, but to proclaim life. He doesn’t thunder condemnation—He opens His mouth to bless the broken, the mourning, the meek, and the hungry. Each Beatitude reveals our fallen condition, but also leads us to Christ—who fulfills these blessings for us, in us, and through us.
Drawing from wisdom literature, gospel parallels, and redemptive typology, this sermon teaches that Jesus is:
-The true poor in spirit, who emptied Himself to give us the kingdom.
-The Man of Sorrows, who mourned sin to comfort the repentant.
-The meek King, who inherits the earth and gives it to His people.
-The righteous one, whose hunger for the will of God satisfied our salvation.
This sermon challenged us to be reminded to truly believe that Jesus is Better than anything and calls us as Christ followers to live like it!
